A new partnership between Francesco Franceschetti Elastomeri and Clariant has led to five ski boot colours that will set the trend on the slopes in the coming season.
The market research phase started in June 2019 and lasted more than six months. This involved 13 ski equipment retailers, whereby shop managers were interviewed to understand and identify customer needs and expectations. Also involved in the study were the websites of 11 manufacturers, making it possible to analyse and catalogue the colours used for the main components of ski boots. This resulted in a 3D map of approximately 2000 colour points. Thanks to Clariant’s ColorWorks programme, five contemporary colours were identified for the 2020-2021 skiing season. These were presented as printed prototypes with the IRFRAN TPE compound and proved to be a hit among designers and stylists. The five contemporary colours have been named after famous ski locations – YANQING, warm white; WHISTLER BLACKCOMB, dark metallic grey; KITZBÜHEL, vibrant fiery red; CORTINA D’AMPEZZO, pastel green; ASPEN, metallic petrol green.
“In this project I’ve glimpsed the chance of showing that we are much more than just a supplier of raw materials, and have a vision of the end product – ski boots“, stated company chairman Francesco Franceschetti. Clariant also acknowledged the value of the project, stating that “We operate independently in terms of business profile, but together we want to demonstrate that we have a thorough understanding of the requirements, vision and future of this market.”
